Perhaps the most highly anticipated sporting event (not involving a game) in recent memory is finally here, and its not the verdict on how much money Elin “Feed Me the Cake” Woods is about to clock.  Tomorrow, July 1, marks the opening of Free Agent Season 2010 in the National Basketball Association.  For a number of years, experts and fans alike have been debating the future destination of some of the game’s greatest stars whose contracts are all conveniently up at the same moment.

While I have my thoughts on where everyone is headed, I wont bore you the same opinions that are currently flooding all major sports websites.

Instead, I would like to touch upon a fascinating result of the free agent madness: the viral efforts of certain fan bases to convince certain players to join or stay on their respective teams.

Obviously, Lebron James is the biggest name on the menu, and every team in the world would love to have him on the roster (including the US Soccer team… insta-header goals on corner kicks).  Here we have two videos that were created by groups or individuals (that have nothing to do with the Cavs or Knicks):

This is a REAL video with one of the richest men in the world begging a basketball player to play in his city.  Do you know where I first saw this video? On the tv in a NYC taxi.  And then I got out of the cab, and a homeless man was wearing a “Cmon Lebron” shirt.  Talk about market coverage! Only in NY…

Touching. One thing I can’t deal with is sad children… another thing I can’t take is cartoon logos of states crying. Its too much. The singer kinda sounds like Jon B.

The next video doesn’t involve Lebron, but rather Chris Bosh. He may be number 3 when it comes to the pecking order for this summer’s free agents… but he definitely wins the award for best fan-plea.

She is funny, creative, has a great voice, and is singing about free agency. I think Im in love.

I hope you all enjoy the twists and turns of free agency as much as the NBA will enjoy profiting off jersey sales of player going to new teams.
Be easy!
